June 8, 2020 – New Mexico retail businesses are beginning to reopen their doors to the public. As you venture out and about to shop, don’t forget your mask and hand-sanitizer. And if you’re looking for something different, here’s five quirky businesses in the Mesilla Valley that deserve your attention.

1. The Chocolate Lady
Located at 2379 Calle De Guadalupe on the charming plaza of Old Mesilla, The Chocolate Lady is a must-stop for all chocolate lovers. The Chocolate Lady offers delicious candy hand-dipped in the tradition of European candy makers. Their sweet menu includes pecan turtles (locally grown pecans) and cashew turtles offered in milk, dark or white chocolate, chile mango in milk or dark chocolate, vanilla butter creams in milk or dark chocolate and milk chocolate roses for the love birds, just to name a few. 2. Tis’ the Season of Mesilla
It’s always Christmas in Mesilla thanks to Tis’ the Season of Mesilla Christmas and Holiday Shoppe, 2402 Avenida de Mesilla. The beautifully restored Victorian family home is decorated like the Christmas season year round and also offers spring, summer and fall collections. If you’re a fan of collectibles, antiques and figurines, this is the store for you. It’ll make any adult feel like a kid again. 3. Funky Karma Incense & Tea Shop
Located at 3207 S. Main St., Funky Karma is just what it sounds like, funky. The wildly eclectic shop is stocked with loose leaf teas from around the world, herbs and spices for culinary and medicinal uses, domestic and imported incenses, conjure oils and spell incenses, a variety of gift items including jewelry, books, cards and candles and crystals. The free-spirited store even offers tarot readings, chakra balancing and egg cleansings available by appointment only. But there’s more. The shop also offers books, art, clothing and jewelry. 4. The Paleta Bar Las Cruces
The Paleta Bar Las Cruces, 2750 Mall Drive, is not your ordinary ice cream shop. Paletas are a Mexican frozen treats made from fresh natural fruits and cream-based products. The new business, which launched May 16, sells authentic gourmet style paletas with an American twist. Choose from sprinkles, chili powder, nuts or have it dipped in chocolate or top it with your favorite fruit — the possibilities are endless. 5. Eyeconik Records & Apparel
Eyeconik Records & Apparel sells a wide selection of hard to find vinyl records, music products, art and apparel for music and entertainment lovers. Located at 224 N. Campo St., customers can listen to albums before purchasing and even listen to live music events. There is something for everyone at this local record store, whether you’re a collector or a musician. The record store also expanded its classic arcade game room and is undergoing a full remodel.
