Five Things to Do in Las Cruces This Weekend

August 9, 2019 – From learning about arthropods to roller derby and events in the park, Las Cruces has something to do for everyone this weekend.

Bug Fest

Join the Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., from 10 a.m. to noon for an expedition into the world of bugs! Conquer your fears with up close and personal encounters with bugs from all over the world. Living specimens from the Museum of Nature & Science and Cross City Exotics and preserved specimens, courtesy of the NMSU Arthropod Museum, will be featured. Create your own bug at our arts and crafts table and discover how a cricket tastes! Info: las-cruces.org/museums or call 575-522-3120.

Roller Derby

Crossroads City Derby’s Reguladies vs. Spitfire Sallies in a home team bout! Gate opens at 7 p.m.; game starts at 8 p.m. at rink behind Meerscheidt Rec Center. This is an outdoor venue with bleacher seating. Tickets are $7 in advance from any CCD member or at Nessa’s Café; $10 at the gate. Kids 12 & under enter free with paying adult. Crafts for Kids

From 10 a.m. to noon at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road. Children of all ages are welcome to come to the museum and create their own craft to take home. This activity is free with regular admission ($5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for children 4-17). Get ready for “back to school” by making a bookworm. Movies in the Park

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department presents the 2019 Movies in the Park Program. Movies in the Park will begin at dusk, this Saturday they will be showing “Bumblebee.” Movies will be shown on select Saturdays, June through August, at Young Park, 1905 E. Nevada Ave. All movies are free. Schedule and location is subject to change without notice. For more information, contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 575-541-2550.

Music in the Park

The series will include an eclectic mix of performances from local, regional, and nationally recognized artists The Music in the Park Series highlights the great talent and diversity of Las Cruces and southern New Mexico music. Each year more than 70 percent of the scheduled musicians are from the Las Cruces area. This Sunday Misty Boyce, playing original alternative rock and pop from Las Cruces and Meri Dean playing variety from Ramah, NM, will be hitting the stage. The Music in the Park Series will begin at 7 p.m., June 2 through Aug. 25, Sunday’s at Young Park, 1905 E. Nevada Ave. Info: Parks & Recreation Department, 575-541-2550.
