Direct Flights Between Hobbs, NM and Denver, CO Begin
November 8, 2019 – The highly anticipated FlyHobbs inaugural flight to Denver took place on Oct. 27th from Lea County Regional Airport (HOB) in Hobbs, NM. What an exciting time to be in Lea County with daily nonstop flights to Houston and now Denver!
Delegates from Lea County municipalities, Lea County representatives, State of New Mexico representation, and the Economic Development Corporation of Lea County (EDCLC) board members and staff traveled to Denver on the inaugural flight to showcase Lea County with City of Denver leadership, businesses, and Denver International Airport.
The trip also included the delegation’s visit to meet with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. Hancock expressed his interest in a trip to Lea County to learn more about how the two communities may best work together and create business and tourism opportunities.
United Airlines, the EDCLC, Lea County, and the City of Hobbs partnered together on this initiative to continue to improve quality of life and place in Southeastern New Mexico, with enhanced flight destinations and new travel opportunities in the region.
“United Airlines has been a great partner with Hobbs and Lea County in providing very successful air service to and from Houston,” said Hobbs’ Mayor, Sam Cobb. “Their willingness to offer connecting service from their Denver hub is a huge testament to their confidence in our robust and growing economy in the Permian Basin and Lea County. The expansion of service to and from Denver gives Hobbs and Lea County residents and businesses an equal footing with any larger city in the region for both business and recreational travel.”
In Denver alone, there are over 30 companies currently doing business in Lea County who also have operations in Colorado and beyond. The addition of the Denver route will enhance connection opportunities throughout the western part of the United States and Canada to fueling future business growth in Southeastern New Mexico. Denver and Houston connections allow for over 350 destinations worldwide which creates endless possibilities for business growth and expansion throughout Southeastern New Mexico.
“The addition of Denver as a destination will open numerous new connections from throughout the northern plains, Pacific Northwest, and Canada for travelers to-and-from the Permian Basin,” said EDCLC Board Chair, Josh Grassham. “These new flights should be especially attractive for those working in the oil and gas industry and make it even easier to get here. This is an exciting time to do business in Lea County.”
United’s nonstop flights to Denver International Airport (DEN) into the Permian Basin will operate daily. United is also scheduled to continue to operate two, daily nonstop flights from Houston’ George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) which have had over 80% ridership in the last two quarters. All flights into Hobbs are operated by SkyWest Airlines with 50-passenger CRJ200 aircraft.
